The right equipment for winter hiking

Which shoes do I need for hiking in winter?

On our groomed winter hiking trails, we recommend sturdy hiking boots or winter boots. Additionally, it’s a good idea to carry crampons or spikes in your backpack in case you encounter slippery or icy sections. Crampons can easily be attached to hiking boots using elastic straps or buckles. Both tools significantly enhance safety and stability on slippery surfaces. Remember to purchase these in advance, either online or at a local sports store, to be well-prepared for your winter hikes. If you plan to hike through fresh snow, be sure to wear snowshoes, which will help you navigate deep snow more easily and keep your feet dry.

What other equipment do I need?

Depending on the weather conditions, we recommend a windproof and waterproof jacket as well as water-repellent pants (especially in snowy weather) that allow you to move freely. Gloves and a hat are also essential gear. On sunny days, don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen—snow combined with sunshine requires protection for your eyes, especially at higher altitudes. Ski poles or trekking poles with snow baskets make winter hiking significantly easier.

When is the best time for winter hiking?

Once there’s snow, the timing is perfect. Within a short time, the hiking trails are groomed and ready for exploration.
